Join me at a furoshiki wrapping workshop where I teach the Japanese art of eco-friendly and super versatile wrapping.
For the occasion of #SustainableSeptember (and a more sustainable everyday) we are offering a furoshiki wrapping workshop on Saturday 28th September 2019 at Soul Space London.
Furoshiki is the Japanese art of wrapping with a square cloth that can be used in many ways such as gift wrapping, transporting items in style, home décor and fashion. The word refers to both the craft and the cloth itself, which often has a traditional design relating to the occasion, season or its content. A cloth that an object is wrapped in is referred to as tsutsumi, meaning “package” or “present.” Although this is an ancient art form originating from around 700BC during the Nara period, it is still relevant today as a beautiful and sustainable practice.
It helps reduce waste by reusing a decorative piece of cloth instead of disposable wrappings and plastic carrier bags.
You will learn how to wrap everyday items with simple shapes and sizes such as a packed lunch, books, bottles, presents and how to make a quick carrier bag for unexpected grocery shopping.
Furoshiki fabrics will be available for purchase on the day.
